Okay – I’ve just recovered this web site after someone hacked it and pretty much wiped it out.
The question I have is, why would anyone bother to hack a personal web site like mine? It’s not like it’s a big deal. It’s only some personal observations, rants, etc. of mine. I’m not trying to change the world. Am I simply a test case for some pimply-faced teenager before he goes after NAVY.MIL or something? Or does he derive some perverse pleasure in knowing he can hack the site of a relatively inexperienced blogger? OOOOH – I’m impressed!
Well, whoever did it (and if you’re reading this) it hasn’t spoiled my day. Backups are handy, passwords can be changed, and daughter’s skills at recovery are immense. 🙂 I hope you had fun with this old guy’s meandering blog. Your activity has been tracked in my web site’s logs, and if it happens again I’ll get my web hosting company and your ISP involved. And they don’t take kindly to such things.
Or is it far more insidious? Are there bots out there that have the sole purpose of ruining random web sites that prove vulnerable to them? Is this the wave of the future? Totally random hacking? Not a good thought.
Anyway – as you can see everything is back to normal. For this I thank my daughter. In any event, I can and will continue my worthless babbling for the foreseeable future…
