It was a day like any other day. Or at least any other day so far… In other words, more rain. But at least, this time, it didn’t matter. We were PLANNING on getting wet and muddy. We were taking a ATV trip around Kipu Ranch.
We started out early in the morning. The tour started at 7 AM (an unGODly hour, believe me). When we got there, we discovered we were the only couple booked for the tour. As a result we got a pretty personalized tour. We drove a Yamaha Rhino ATV, or rather I did. Polly was happy to simply go along for the ride and take pictures.
The Kipu Ranch has been the site of several movie productions. Below you can see the location where Harrison Ford swung out over the river as he was being chased by natives at the beginning of the first Indiana Jones movie. In the afternoon tours, tour members can actually swing out into the river and drop in. We could have too, but it was a bit early in the day for that . The rope you see was actually put there by the tour group. A portion of the original rope from the movie is still connected to the tree, however. You can just barely see it in the second picture below… The tour guide said he’d actually been offered several thousand dollars to climb up and retrieve it for a fan once, but turned it down. He said if he’s gonna risk his neck to climb up and get it, he’s gonna keep it for himself.
Near the end of the tour, we stopped to feed some wild pigs and ran across some peacocks.
As I mentioned, it was a pretty muddy affair. And THIS mud just would NOT come off. We still have red stains on our clothes and shoes.
I’m sure we did lot’s of other stuff that day, too, but this was by far the highlight of the trip. The one day we got wet and didn’t care…
